Targeted advertising is based on finding the best prospective client for your particular business. If you know your target audience, then you can move to step #2 which is seeking that target audience.
Every product, service and business appeals or has the potential to appeal to a definable group of people. Most businesses get their most suitable prospects BY CHANCE not by targeted advertising.
Imagine how much better your business would be by targeted advertising. When you pay for the opportunity to be featured in a magazine, website, newsletter or other media, why not select the right media first?
Geographic target marketing is the most commonly used form of target marketing. Most businesses are geographically sensitive, especially if you sell a service. If you are direct mailing, you must search for a list by zip code.
Be sure you know what kind of people live in those zip code areas. This will help you understand your target market better.
Demographic target marketing is directed to groups of people defined by statistical information or behavioral information. Targeted marketing based on demographic can be as easy as selecting by age, race, and gender. It can also be as complex as marketing by occupation, number of kids per household (ages of kids), pet owner, traveler, etc.
Every media has demographic information. The media needs this type of targeted advertising information for editorial, service, and product selections.
Association target marketing is probably the one of the greatest ways to target marketing. Famous marketer, Dan Kennedy commented on Associations, by saying, “I like this approach and use it a great deal for myself and clients…..In approximately twenty years, I have sold millions of dollars of goods and services to a very small market.”
